The Brisbane Convention Centre was the venue for the 2002 Premier of Queensland's Export Awards gala dinner, held on 23 October. Ausenco was nominated as a finalist and won the overall Services Category from 14 other companies that were also entered. The standard of competition was extremely high and Ausenco is thrilled by this prestigious Award that was presented by the Premier of Queensland, Peter Beattie. Ausenco is now qualified, along with the 9 other overall Category winners, to enter the 2002 National Australian Export Awards, being hosted in Melbourne on 26 November by Prime Minister John Howard.

From its Brisbane base, engineering company Ausenco Limited has grown to be a global supplier of goods and services to the mining industry. They have developed a reputation for innovation and technological excellence that attracts overseas companies, and increases the export potential of Australian goods and services to the world.

Ausenco specialises in the provision of innovative engineering design and construction services to the mining and minerals processing industries. Ausenco is able to participate in all phases of a project's progression, from project scoping studies and process options assessments, through to feasibility studies utilised for project financing decisions, project design and construction, commissioning and ultimately operations support.

Ausenco has carried out 25 overseas assignments ranging from prefeasibility studies through to full projects in the commodity areas of gold, copper, lead, zinc, mineral sands, industrial minerals, nickel and uranium.

The company commenced operations in Brisbane in 1991 and now coordinates the activities of their global business from their offices in Toowong. Over the past 11 years, the organisation has grown steadily and they currently employ over 140 personnel globally, and have strong relationships with not only global mining companies, but significant engineering construction firms and key financial institutions.

Ausenco's focus is on the use of innovation and technology at all stages of a project's development to ensure that we deliver the most appropriate solution to the client. This innovation can take the form of developing and adopting new technology in process engineering, project delivery and project management, through to the increasing use of IT and e-commerce to improve delivery and reduce costs.

Ausenco has recently undertaken significant projects off-shore. These include the North Mara Gold Project in Tanzania which was completed in September 2002, and the Chatree Gold Project in rural Thailand that was completed in December 2001. Current projects underway include the Sepon Gold Project in Southern Laos, and the Lihir Pebble Crusher Project in Papua New Guinea.

Ausenco remains committed to continuing to grow export earnings. Ausenco's focus is always on innovation, and this is supported by the high level of commitment throughout the organisation to continue to promote Queensland engineering expertise to the world.
